Wearables shipments up 100% y/y
Global wearable devices shipments hit 118.9m units in Q4/19, up 101% y/y and for 2019 as a whole, they grew 89%, evidence of the rapid growth in this key segment for small rechargeable batteries. Unsurprisingly given the success of Apple’s Airpods and Samsung’s comparable products, the fastest growing segment was earwear/hearables, with growth of over 250% for the year. It’s interesting to contrast this supernormal growth with the rate of growth for smartphones (down 1%) which we reported last month. Given the smartphone growth trajectory it’s very likely that hearables demand will continue to grow at elevated rates for years...
