China’s lithium carbonate net imports tick up

Chinaโ€™s lithium carbonate net imports ticked up above 4Kt in April, their highest-ever level. This may have been linked to a significant rise in Chilean exports, which reportedly reached over 10Kt for the month. Interestingly, there wasnโ€™t too much of an impact on the realised import prices which remained steady at c.US$5,900/t. Hydroxide imports were also up a bit, suggesting a re-stocking cycle after the slowdown in Jan-Feb. The key issue is whether China will remain in the market in coming months or whether it will de-stock material?
