China’s lithium carbonate net imports tick up
China’s lithium carbonate net imports ticked up above 4Kt in April, their highest-ever level. This may have been linked to a significant rise in Chilean exports, which reportedly reached over 10Kt for the month. Interestingly, there wasn’t too much of an impact on the realised import prices which remained steady at c.US$5,900/t. Hydroxide imports were also up a bit, suggesting a re-stocking cycle after the slowdown in Jan-Feb. The key issue is whether China will remain in the market in coming months or whether it will de-stock material?
