Batteries to beat NatGas peakers in Europe by 2030
Consultant Wood Mackenzie published a report on European ESS this month which suggested that the big five European markets – Germany, the UK, France, Italy and Spain – would derive the majority of their power from renewable sources by as early as 2023 and that Europe would add as much as 169GW of wind and 172GW of solar over the next 20 years. While gas peakers and interconnectors are flavour of the month now, WoodMac suggests that battery storage will be the cheapest option by 2030 and it forecasts that the continent will increase energy storage capacity (excluding pumped hydro)...
