Battery deployments trump EV sales growth
Plug-in EV sales volumes were up 46% y/y in H1/19. Disappointing compared to previous growth rates for EVs. But that’s not the whole story, because for the same period Adamas Intelligence calculates that global battery deployments rose 89% to 46.3GWh. The reason? Growth in battery sizes. Adamas’ analysis suggests that the average xEV battery capacity rose 52% for the period, from 12.9kWh to 19.7kWh, as larger and longer-ranged batteries became more important.
