Chinese cell output up 45% in 2024
Chinese cell output (EV+ESS) was up 45% y/y in 2024 at 1.6TWh of production. The end of the year, buoyed by ESS output, was particularly strong with output in Q4/24 up 102% y/y, a real contrast with the slow start to the year. Anecdotal reports suggest that cell output continues to grow rapidly in Jan-Feb, although the Lunar New Year holidays are likely to muddy the waters somewhat.
