December Materials Ranking
November was a bad month for battery raw materials price performance with cobalt sulphate the standout underperformer, but also considerable weakness in nickel markets. The reason for both was profit-taking following a speculative run-up in prices in prior months. Prices are now coming back towards levels that could be justified by fundamental demand. Interestingly LME cobalt prices haven’t yet reacted to the sell-off in cobalt sulphate, but surely the sell-off must be round the corner given the end of the Chinese re-stocking event.
