Global EV sales hit 2m in 2018!
Global EV sales surpassed two million units for 2018, a rise of 63% y/y. Given that sales were only 321,000 units in 2014, this is some increase and highlights the rapid growth in the space. China contributes 1.09m of those sales and saw an 86% y/y increase. The Tesla Model 3 wasn't quite enough to push the US up to the second largest EV market, but it was close. The US market expanded 79% y/y with Tesla capturing a 53% market share (39% for the Model 3). For more in depth commentary, check out Battery Materials Review 2019, Issue 2.
