IHS highlights profitability of ESS
A fascinating report by IHS Markit highlights that on average ESS projects may be up to three times more profitable than natural gas peaker plants. The report studies wholesale market transactions by ESS plants using FERC’s EQR database in the US and comes up with a number of key points, most particularly that in several cases ESS operations earn revenues from frequency regulation, day-ahead energy sales and real-time energy sales within the same hour which results in maximisation of revenue opportunities.
