Is there a squeeze in lithium underway?
We believe so. The strong EV sales in September and better than expected October (+50% y/y, according to preliminary data) seems to have caught the battery value chain out and, while we’d previously expected lithium prices to drift off into the end of the year, we’re now expecting a little bit of a rally. Inventories in the LFP supply chain (though not in the ternary one as yet) seem to have peaked for now, and have fallen in the past few months.
