Lithium – are we starting to approach the bottom?

It was another difficult reporting period for the world’s lithium producers and developers and for the Australian hard rock producers and developers in particular. Profit warnings by Albemarle, Tianqi and Ganfeng Lithium, weak results by Western Australian hard rock producers, and production cuts were very much the order of the day. However, indicators are suggesting we might be closer to the bottom than many suggest. We're expecting a 20% reduction in output in CQ4/19 in Western Australia and that should lead inventories to peak in the current quarter. That means prices should bottom out...
