Lithium hydroxide continues to trump carbonate in Korea
Lithium hydroxide net imports continued to grow in Korea in July and they’re now exceeding lithium carbonate net imports on a 12 month rolling basis. This highlights the increasing dominance of high nickel battery chemistries which require hydroxide over carbonate as their primary ingredient. This is a situation particular to Korea which doesn’t have its own lithium hydroxide manufacturing capacity. Both Japan and China, which do, have either lower hydroxide net imports or are net exporters.
