Lithium-ion cell price down to US$100/kWh
Research by Benchmark Mineral Intelligence suggests that the price of lithium-ion cells has decreased to US$110/kWh in 2020, from US$290/kWh in 2014. The consultant warns, however, that those who expect cell prices to continue to fall need to be aware of the shortage of raw materials investment and its likely impact on raw material prices. They suggest (as we have repeatedly) that the responsibility falls to the carmakers to stimulate investment in new production capacity. BNEF believes that battery pack prices averaged US$137/kWh for 2020 and cell prices averaged US$100/kWh, slightly lower than Benchmark's estimates. The consultant is still forecasting...
