The news that Allkem and Livent had agreed to a friendly merger swept over the lithium market in early-May. Lithium prices were off their lows, Albemarle was chasing Liontown Resources and TLEA had just been blocked from taking out Essential Metals by Mineral Resources. It seems that negotiations between Allkem and Livent had been going on for some time (months if not years), so we probably shouldn’t read too much into the timing of the announcement.
