Mexico’s populist president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) is ratcheting up his rhetoric on the lithium industry in the country, throwing the future of Ganfeng Lithium’s (HKG:1772) Sonora project (which it bought from Bacanora Lithium) into uncertainty. AMLO has suggested that lithium is a strategic mineral like oil that should belong to the nation, and wants to create a state lithium mining company.
