Nickel: Is it heading back to balance?
In recent years the increase in nickel output from Indonesia has been the overriding theme on the supply side of the nickel industry. The ability of Chinese companies to get HPAL to work so much better and so much more economically than their western counterparts has caused huge growth in nickel output, which resulted in a collapse in nickel prices and hence in profitability for many nickel producers elsewhere in the world.
