Resource nationalism on the up
The increase in copper prices in particular is leading to an uptick in resource nationalism in recent months, but the story is unlikely to stop with copper, and is likely to extend into mining in general, and battery materials in particular, in coming months and years. First up was the Peruvian election, with both finalists looking to increase mining taxes, then was the news from Chile that the Lower House passed a law that would increase copper, and perhaps lithium, royalties (although no-one is quite sure about the lithium part).
