RIO goes BIG in Chile
It seems that Rio Tinto (LON:RIO), not content with its acquisition of Arcadium which closed this year, has more plans in lithium brine after it concluded JVs with two Chilean entities this month. RIO acquired 49.9% shares in Codelco’s Maricunga project and in ENAMI’s Altoandinos project, which are believed to have joint LCE resources amounting to c.20Mt. Given that RIO already acquired a big resource base in Argentina and Canada with the Arcadium acquisition, why is it now moving into Chile?
