The problem for battery materials funding: capital capacity
It’s almost exactly four years now since the first edition of Battery Materials Review and, during that period, while we’ve written on many topics, one topic that we’ve come back to repeatedly is the sector’s inability to attract investment for the huge amount of new capacity that we’re going to need in battery raw materials. It’s been blatantly obvious to us for many years that the mining part of the industry could not fund itself, and that the Downstream parts of the industry would need to utilise their balance sheets to help fund Upstream.
