VC shortages play on LFP supply

Few have ever heard of the compound vinylene carbonate and up to this year that would have been understandable. But vinylene carbonate or VC is a key additive for the electrolytes used in LFP batteries. And it’s in shortage. Some of the reason for this is the massive resurgence of the LFP chemistry in China this year. According to ICCSino 50.5% (37.7GWh) of Chinese battery production was LFP, a cumulative y/y increase of 334%! This has led to a massive supply gap in VC additives, and huge increases in prices.
