W. Australian spod conc exports bounce in September
There was a significant increase in spodumene concentrate exports from Western Australian ports in September, with exports from Bunbury more than doubling. Whether this is a one-off or the start of higher production from Greenbushes remains to be seen. Neverthless it comes at a time when other producers have made substantial production cuts and there are signs that the oversupply of spodumene concentrate at mines is starting to ameliorate. Our analysis suggests that the shipments/inventory ratio for WA mines is starting to bottom out, implying that spodumene concentrate prices could bottom out in H1/20.
