Weak start to the year for financing
Unsurprisingly, given the volatility in global equity markets, February wasn’t a great month for capital raisings in the battery material sector. Only US$491m was raised for the period, the bulk of that in the Graphite sector, thanks to Syrah Resources’ (ASX:SYR) raise to fund its US downstream plans. Given the ongoing need to raise funds for the sector, we’d better hope that equity markets calm down in March because another month when juniors are unable to raise capital could have substantial ramifications for the ability to start to fill the supply/demand gap.
